The lead has an insulating supporting tube (20) with central bore (22) coaxial to lumen of lead. The tube has a cavity to form a chip receptacle (32) which is opened into central region (30) of supporting tube. The chip has outer and inner conductive pads arranged on corresponding sides of substrate. An electrode is electrically connected to an outer conductive pad. A feed-through conductor such as conductive strip (28) extends axially along supporting tube. A feed-through conductor end (28b) is connected to opposing conductive connection located in sheath.
