<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique capable of suppressing such an erroneous detection that a person not having a plan to use an apparatus is detected. <P>SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: a reader support unit which is arranged on one end side of an apparatus housing in its horizontal direction and connects an image forming unit to an image reader 100 arranged above the image forming unit; a person detection device which detects a person operating a UI 400 arranged on the front side of the image reader 100; a discharge roll which discharges a recording material on which an image is formed by the image forming unit to the outside of the apparatus housing; and a first loading tray 71 on which the recording material discharged from the discharge roll is loaded. The first loading tray 71 is arranged between the image forming unit and the image reader 100, the discharge roll is provided on the side of the first loading tray 71 in the reader support unit and discharges the recording material toward the first loading tray 71, and the person detection device is arranged on the front side of the apparatus housing and on one end side.
