METHOD FOR PRODUCING USEFUL SUBSTANCE FROM CARBON DIOXIDE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing formic acid as a useful substance from carbon dioxide which is excellent in an environmental aspect and energy efficiency.

SOLUTION: A process for producing the formic acid by electrolytically reducing the carbon dioxide is performed in an aqueous medium which includes a porous metal complex capable of storing carbon dioxide, an amphiphilic electron donor such as 1, 1'-dimethyl-4, 4'-piperidinium and a trinuclear transition metal sulfur cluster catalyst such as [(C5H5Co)3S2] obtained by complexation with the porous metal complex.
