<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element which makes it possible to improve emission intensity in the front direction of the organic EL element without reducing the light-emitting area thereof. <P>SOLUTION: An organic EL element 1 comprises a transparent electrode 6, a reflecting electrode 3, an organic EL layer 4 including a light-emitting layer 5, a transparent layer 7 disposed on the light emission side of the transparent electrode 6, and a convex shaped light extraction structure 8 disposed on the light emission side of the transparent layer 7 and having an inclined part which narrows gradually from the transparent layer side, where the refractive indices of the transparent layer 7 and the light extraction structure 8 are equal to or greater than that of the light-emitting layer 5. In a cross section where two angles of inclination ϕ<SB POS="POST">1</SB>and ϕ<SB POS="POST">2</SB>formed by the reflecting electrode 3 and an inclined part 9 when cut at a plane perpendicular to the reflecting electrode 3 are at maximum, inclined parts 9a and 9b of the light extraction structure 8 are set so as to satisfy a condition 1 or a condition 2 for a waveguide light 11 emitted from the light-emitting layer 5 into the light extraction structure 8 to be taken out of the organic EL element 1 from the light extraction structure 8. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
