Pliers for establishing a sliding-sleeve connection with two jaws which can be moved towards each other for receiving pipe parts to be connected, where a first jaw 01 is arranged in a fixed plier part 03, and a second jaw 02 is arranged on a guide pin 06 which can be moved axially in the fixed plier part 03. The guide pin 06 is connected in a driven manner through a crank drive to a ratchet wheel 14 rotatably supported in the fixed plier part 03. The crank drive comprises the ratchet wheel 14 and a pressure lever 11, where the pressure lever 11 is connected in an articulated manner with one of its ends in a wheel-side support place, and with its other end on the guide pin 06 in a pin-side support place. If the ratchet wheel 14 is rotated, the guide pin 06 is shifted at first in the closing direction, and, after a dead centre position of the pressure lever 11 has been reached, during further rotation of the ratchet wheel, the guide pin 06 is shifted in the opening direction.
