WATER TREATMENT APPARATUS

Water treatment apparatus is provided in which at least one first electrode is housed within a UV-transparent tubular housing located in a water flow path so as to be operatively submerged, and a co-operating second electrode is exposed to the water which itself becomes an electrode. An electrical power supply is connected to the first electrode and the second electrode with an output voltage and frequency selected to generate UV radiation upon energising of the electrodes. The first electrode includes a cylindrical electrode that is generally coaxial with the UV-transparent tubular housing such that an air gap is created between them suitable for creating a corona discharge. The air gap may be from 0.5 mm to 5 mm, and preferably about 1 mm. The air gap may form a flow path for air so that ozone is generated in the gap as air is passed through it. A supported photo catalyst may be positioned outside of the UV-transparent tubular housing such that UV radiation impinges on the photo catalyst to activate it.
