PURPOSE: An ice protection apparatus of a side mirror in a vehicle and control method thereof are provided to rapidly defrost a mirror body using a heater unit which is controlled by a switch unit. CONSTITUTION: A temperature sensor(20) senses outdoor temperatures. A heater unit(50) is installed in a mirror body(5). The heater unit generates heat using the power source of a battery unit(60). A switch unit(80) is installed in a mirror base(3). The switch unit selectively operates the heater unit according to the control signal of a control unit(30). The control unit controls the switch unit using the temperature sensing signal of the temperature sensor.
