The headlight (10) has a light unit (30) provided with a light source (32) i.e. LED, and arranged in a housing (20), where light emitted from the light source passes out through an end plate (40). A portion of the end plate comprises an inspection device (50) switchable between an opaque transmission state and a transparent transmission state. The inspection device is arranged such that the inspection device partially prevents light i.e. sunlight, striking on the end plate from outside the housing, to reach into the light unit, in the opaque transmission state. The inspection device comprises electrochromic glass and suspended particle device (SPD) glass. An independent claim is also included for a method for protecting a light unit.
