[Class 135] [Also in Group XXXIV] In a device for producing hydraulic pressures from an arbitrarily variable inlet pressure in which the relationship between the output pressures is controlled, adjusting means is provided for maintaining a substantially constant ratio of adjustable magnitude between the output pressures throughout the range of the inlet pressure. As applied to a braking system for a vehicle, a controlling hydraulic fluid of which the pressure is varied by manual means flows through a conduit 44, Fig. 3, into a chamber 114 where it acts on a piston 119. The resulting movement of the latter is applied through a tappet 123, a lever 79 pivoted at 81, a tappet 76, a lever 80 pivoted at 82, a tappet 88, and a piston 91, to open a valve 96 and allow the pressure liquid in chamber 114 to flow through a conduit (not shown) and a chamber 109, past the valve, and into a chamber 105 from which the liquid is applied to the brake cylinders through a conduit 9. A connection may also be taken from chamber 105 through a port 106. Pressure liquid in chamber 114 may also be tapped off through port 116 to provide a second pressure liquid whereby the various brakes of the vehicle may be operated at differential pressures. The differential of pressure between the liquids in conduits 44, 9 may be varied by altering the position of tappet 76 along the levers 79, 80. For this purpose the tappet is carried by a plunger 67 spring-loaded to a central position, but movable by means of a Bowden wire 33 which, at its other end, is attached with a lost-motion connection 28, Fig. 9, to an operating lever 12. The latter moves over a scale and is held in its adjusted position by a tooth-and-rack device. The movement of the plunger is restricted by a pin 73 housed in a groove in the plunger, this arrangement also preventing the plunger, from rotating. With the device shown operating only the front set of brakes on the vehicle, a second, similar, device may be incorporated to operate the rear brakes.</p> |
