<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a merchandise sales data processing apparatus capable of easily determining whether obligation on pharmaceutical affairs law have been fulfilled on a shop side and capable of providing a sense of security to a customer when merchandise purchased by the customer is over-the-counter drug. <P>SOLUTION: A merchandise sales data processing apparatus which issues a receipt relating to transaction contents stores qualifications of respective shop assistants and accepts signing-on of the respective shop assistants. A prescribed merchandise category assigned to merchandise to be sold is discriminated, and the shop assistant having authority to sell the merchandise is specified among the shop assistants whose signing-on has been accepted, on the basis of the qualifications of the respective shop assistants and the merchandise category.
