PURPOSE: An auto focus controlling device using relative definition and a method thereof are provided to use relative definition about light of different wavelengths for an photographed image, thereby rapidly controlling focus. CONSTITUTION: An image signal processing unit(140) outputs red and blue channel definition of an image inputted from an image sensor and relative blue red-blue definition. A memory(150) stores near and far focus group information about each point between a maximum distance and a minimum distance about the image sensor of lens. When a user pushes a release button of a camera, a focus controlling unit(160) moves the lens to a central point of the maximum distance and the minimum distance and moves the lens to the corresponding point of a maximum focus value.
