This image processing device (3) includes a number plate detecting unit (5), a horizontally-flipped-image creating unit (6), a correcting unit (7), and a superimposing unit (8). The number plate detecting unit (5) detects a number plate appearing in an image captured by an image capturing device. The horizontally-flipped-image creating unit (6) creates a horizontally flipped image of the image captured by the image capturing device. The correcting unit (7) creates an image in which the shape of the number plate detected by the number plate detecting unit (5) is projected onto the shape of the area corresponding to the number plate in the horizontally flipped image. The image created by the correcting unit (7) is output to the superimposing unit (8) and superimposed onto the horizontally flipped image. The image created by the superimposing unit (8) is output to a display device and displayed.
