<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a summary sentence for which an essential part is extracted from text including items related to use of a device. <P>SOLUTION: In an item division part 24, text including items related to use of a device is divided into respective parts pertinent to each of the items related to "situation", "operation", "phenomenon", and "request, opinion and question" according to predetermined item division rules. In an important part extraction part 28, an important word dictionary 26 is referred to, the number of important words included in each part is counted, and the part including the largest number of important words is extracted as an important part.
