<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing bromine in a high yield by oxidizing hydrogen bromide with oxygen. <P>SOLUTION: Bromine is produced by oxidizing hydrogen bromide with oxygen in the presence of a catalyst that contains at least one kind selected from the group consisting of metallic ruthenium and ruthenium compounds. The catalyst is preferably a catalyst in which at least one kind is supported on a carrier, the at least one kind being selected from the group consisting of metallic ruthenium and ruthenium compounds. It is preferable that the carrier contains at least one kind selected from the group consisting of titanium oxide, alumina and zirconium oxide. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
