The device has a carrier (22), on which a side wall of a spare wheel (10) rests in a locked state. An engagement unit communicates with another side wall of the spare wheel in engagement. A flexible clamping element (30) is guided through a center opening (16) of the spare wheel and is connected to the engagement unit to lock the spare wheel in the carrier in the direction of the tensile force acting on the engagement unit. One end of the clamping element is anchored to the carrier or to the engagement unit.
