The present technique relates to a transmission device, transmission method, receiving device, receiving method, program, and broadcasting system, whereby a service for data broadcast content linkable to a television program, commercial message, or the like can be implemented. A control unit supplies meta-data storing trigger information relating to the control of an application program to be executed in conjunction with content in a receiving device, and also supplies size information for embedding the meta-data in a user data region of an encoded audio stream. An audio encoder generates the encoded audio stream, in which the meta-data storing the trigger information has been embedded into the user data region, on the basis of the size information. A transmission unit transmits, to the receiving device, the generated encoded audio stream. The present disclosure can be applied to a case where, for example, data broadcasting is to be implemented in the U.S. or elsewhere. |
