The invention relates to a surge protection device (SPD) having an input (IN) and an output (OUT). Between the input (IN) and the output (OUT), the surge protection device (SPD) comprises a main current path (CP1) that is short-circuit proof, and a secondary current path (CP2). In the secondary current path (CP2), a help system (H) for signaling and/or for supplying systems for improving the ignition behavior is arranged. The surge protection device (SPD) further comprises a safety fuse (3, 7) in a short-circuit proof safety fuse box (B) arranged in the secondary current path (CP2). On one side of the secondary current path (CP2, 4a), the short-circuit proof safety fuse box (B) is connected to the main current path (CP1) in a short-circuit proof manner relative to the main current path (CP1), and on the other side of the secondary current path (CP2, 5), it is connected in a substantially short-circuit proof manner relative to the safety fuse (3, 7). Furthermore, the short-circuit proof safety fuse box (B) is connected to a short-circuit proof discharge path (4b), which can convey a current past the current path of the help system (5). |
