For the inhibition of ice formation in a pipe such as the condensate pipe which is exposed to a low ambient temperature there is provided an electrically powered fan (28) and an electrically powered heater (29). The fan and heater are operated to provide a forced flow of heated air at a temperature above said ambient temperature and the heated air is introduced (21) into said pipe to flow in a direction towards the pipe outlet.
