<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biologically absorbable rivet assembly that can be easily installed. <P>SOLUTION: A surgical rivet and pin fastener device includes a rivet 3 formed of bioabsorbable biocompatible material, having an elongated body extending along a rivet axis 10 with an enlarged head 4 at a proximal end thereof and a plurality of spreadable legs 12 hanging from the head. The legs 12 are arranged generally circumferentially to define a central opening 14 extending distally along the rivet axis. The surgical rivet and pin fastener device also includes a pin 5, the pin 5 and the legs 12 being sized so that movement of the pin 5 in the central opening 14 spreads the legs 12 to fix the rivet 3 in position. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
