The present invention provides a depilatory composition or skin-whitening composition comprising a compound represented by the following General Formula I as an active ingredient: General Formula I S-(MS)p-(MS)q, wherein S is a sialic acid and (MS)p and (MS)q are independent monosaccharide residues. The composition of the present invention can reduce the number of hair follicle cells significantly, and can further have a skin-whitening function to maximize a cosmetic effect by virtue of hair removal. The composition of the present invention reduces the amount of melanin to provide a skin-whitening effect. The composition of the present invention is harmless to humans and thus safe. |
