Use of seed treating-agent comprising nicotinoid insecticide as a safener for avoiding or reducing phytotoxic effects of herbicide on useful plants, preferably crop plants, is claimed. Independent claims are also included for: (1) a crop protecting agent comprising the seed treating-agent, optionally in the form of a seed dressing formulation, in combination with herbicides, and optionally formulation auxiliaries; (2) protecting cultivated- or crop plants against phytotoxic effects of herbicides, which cause damage to plants comprising applying a required amount of the above seed treating-agent as the safener on the seeds of the crop plants; and (3) selectively controlling weeds in useful plant crops comprising applying a required amount of the above crop-protecting agent before, after or simultaneously with a seed of the crop plants with the required amount of at least one herbicide on seeds, plant parts, agricultural land or water against the weeds. ACTIVITY : Insecticide. The insecticidal activity of Gaucho 600 WS(RTM: Imidacloprid) (a) was tested on rice plants. The results showed that (a) (0.60 g/kg seeds) exhibited an improvement of plant response by 39.6 number of accumulated crops/m 2>compared to untreated rice plants (25.2 number of accumulated crops/m 2>).
