<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a super-resolution apparatus which makes a distribution video image into super resolution by defining an original video image as a fundamental layer and distributing differential data between the original video image and a super-resolution video image as an extension layer, and a super-resolution video playback device which decodes the original video image as the fundamental layer and decodes the differential data as extension layer. <P>SOLUTION: A super-resolution processing unit 204 performs super-resolution processing on an original video image to produce a super-resolution video image. A differential data generation unit 205 generates differential data between the original video image and the super-resolution video image. The super-resolution processing is performed step by step and the differential data are generated for each of a plurality of super-resolution video images of different resolutions. A differential data storage unit 206 holds therein the plurality of differential data items and metadata thereof for each original video image. A differential data distribution unit 207 distributes differential data on a designated original video image, in response to a differential data request from a video playback terminal 3, as an extension layer for improving the resolution or image quality of the original video image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
