<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a display device in which character expression is not limited even when the number of variable font patterns which can be stored in a CG-RAM is limited; and an image forming apparatus using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The display device comprises: a first storage unit for storing fixed font patterns; a second storage unit for storing the predetermined number of optional variable font patterns; a third storage unit for storing character codes of character strings to be displayed on a display screen; a fourth storage unit for storing character codes of character strings which are required to be displayed on the display screen; a fifth storage unit for storing optional variable font patterns; a display unit for reading the font patterns from the first storage unit and the second storage unit and displaying the patterns on the display screen according to the character codes; and a control unit for allowing the display unit to display the variable font patterns stored in the second storage unit on the display screen while rewriting the patterns to the variable font patterns stored in the fifth storage unit, and when the second storage unit is limited in storage capacity, allowing the display unit to divide and display the character strings in a plurality of times. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
