USE OF PROTEINS AND PEPTIDES ENCODED BY GENOME OF NOVEL SARS-ASSOCIATED CORONAVIRUS STRAIN

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a protein and peptide encoded by a genome of isolated or purified strain of coronavirus associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS); and especially protein S and an antibody derived from the same, as a diagnostic reagent and as a vaccine.

SOLUTION: A recombinant expression vector encodes an ectodomain of S protein having a specific sequence or S protein composed of amino acids corresponding to 1-1193 position or 14-1193 position of specific sequence and contains a splice signal sequence and, optionally, WPRE sequence of woodchuck hepatitis virus (post-transcriptional regulatory element of woodchuck hepatitis virus) or CTE sequence of Mason-Pfizer simian retrovirus (constitutive transport element). The immunogenicity and/or a vaccine composition includes the recombinant vector.
