Disclosed is a compacted / compressed / pelleted article which comprises at least 51% by weight of particles of carnauba wax and at least 19.5% by weight of particles of a second wax (such as candelilla wax, microcrystalline wax, shellac wax, castor wax, ouricury wax, rice bran wax, paraffin wax, beeswax, lanolin, bayberry wax, sugar cane wax, ozocerite, ceresin wax, montan wax, and mixtures thereof), the particles of the two waxes being compressed together so as to form a solid, wherein the compression of the wax particles does not include melting of wax, and an active agent selected from a pesticide, a herbicide, a plant nutrient, a fertiliser, an arthropod attractant, a semiochemical, a food or protein bait, and including mixtures of two or more thereof, and wherein the density of the article should range from 0.3 to 1 g/cm3. Further disclosed is a method of applying a compact as defined above to a substrate (such as a plant, tree, building, insect trap or dispenser), the method comprising applying sufficient force to the compact to cause at least some of the particles to adhere to the substrate.
