A pyroelectric element (10) is provided with: a pyroelectric substrate (20); a light reception portion (61) comprising a front electrode (41), a back electrode (51), and a light reception region (21); and a light reception portion (62) comprising a front electrode (42), a back electrode (52), and a light reception region (22). The formation of a curve in a cavity-facing region (26), which is the section of the pyroelectric substrate (20) that faces a cavity (38), increases the light reception area of the light reception portions (61, 62) relative to when a curve is not formed. Thus, without increasing the size of the pyroelectric element (10), the detection sensitivity can be improved relative to when a curve is not formed.
