The surface information is extracted by a surface information extraction unit (2) from the image information captured from the palm of the hand. If it is not possible for the surface information correction unit (4) to correct the surface information, or if it is not possible for the surface information to be used in authentication by an authentication unit (5) even when correction has been performed, the authentication device (1) once again acquires image information of the palm of the hand. As a result of the surface information correction unit (4) performing correction, the number of times the authentication device (1) provides notification for guiding the palm of the hand of the person being authenticated to an appropriate position is reduced.
