<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image transmission system capable of performing digest reproduction of image data even when transmission and reception of the image data have not yet completed, and of reproducing an important scene in the image data without being missed even when normal reproduction is being performed. <P>SOLUTION: An image transmission system according to the present invention is constituted by a transmitting device and a reproducing device. The transmitting device comprises: a digest extracting section for extracting a preferential scene constituting a digest of image data from a plurality of scenes constituting the image data; and a transmitting section for dividing the image data into the plurality of scenes and transmitting the divided scenes. The transmitting section preferentially transmits the preferential scene rather than a non-preferential scene. The reproducing device comprises: a receiving section for receiving the image data having been divided into the plurality of scenes; and a reproducing section for reproducing the image data having been divided into the plurality of scenes.
