<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a power conversion apparatus that implements a reduced conduction loss and switching loss by reducing the number of elements. <P>SOLUTION: A first series circuit comprising a series connection of first and second DC voltage sources, a second series circuit comprising a series connection of first and second switching elements connected with antiparallel diodes, and a third series circuit comprising a series connection of fifth and sixth switching elements connected with antiparallel diodes are connected in parallel. A bidirectional switching element comprising an antiparallel connection of third and fourth switching elements is connected between the junction of the first and second DC voltage sources and the junction of the first and second switching elements.
