The obtained display size of the 3D display and each GOP maximum display size are compared. A viewpoint image of one combination of two viewpoints is selected from the one or more combinations of two-viewpoint viewpoint images corresponding to the GOP maximum display size determined from among the GOP maximum display sizes to be equal to or less than the display size of the 3D display, and the selected viewpoint image is outputted to the 3D display.
