The roller (29) has a single-layer that is provided around a shortcoming roller (22), and a fiber layer arranged around a feathering (28) supported by the shortcoming roller. An outer layer with a larger coefficient of friction in comparison to the fiber layer is assigned to an exposed outer side of the fiber layer. The shortcoming roller is connected with the fiber layer, where the shortcoming roller runs transverse to an edge of the outer layer. The outer layer comprises only half the length of the fiber layer. An independent claim is also included for a flatwork ironer comprising a cylindrical surface.
