<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal composition in which dielectric anisotropy is negative, the absolute value is large, and refractive index anisotropy is small; and to provide a liquid crystal display element of a VA type or the like using the same. <P>SOLUTION: The liquid crystal composition includes: 10-60% of a compound shown by general formula (I); and 10-70% of a compound shown by general formula (II). A liquid crystal composition with low viscosity in which dielectric anisotropy is negative has been obtained by the combination of liquid crystal compounds almost maintaining refractive index anisotropy. A liquid crystal display element excellent in reliability to be able to maintain a high voltage holding ratio to a high temperature zone can be provided by using the composition, and this display is very practical as liquid crystal displays of a VA method, an ECB method, an IPS method or the like, and is effective for making fast response without especially thinning a cell gap. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
