<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suppress meaningless processing to be performed. <P>SOLUTION: A FAX apparatus registers a setting method for an IP address in a memory. The setting method is any one of multiple types of setting methods including a setting method "DHCP" for setting an IP address assigned from a DHCP server as an IP address for a FAX apparatus and a setting method "STATIC" for setting an IP address manually specified by a user as an IP address for a FAX apparatus. When an instruction to change from the "DHCP" to the "STATIC" is given by a user, a FAX apparatus 10 changes a state flag from "ON" to "OFF" to prevent processing for IPFAX transmission according to a SIP communication mode from being performed.
