The present invention refers to a method for reducing the volume of foam derived from wash liquid or from a detergent composition, wherein heat is applied to the foam. Further, a method is provided for the wet treatment of laundry articles comprising the steps of washing, rinsing and drainage, wherein the wet treatment is carried out in a washing system, wherein during the washing step a detergent composition is used in the wash liquid, wherein foam which is formed during the operation of the washing system is reduced by application of heat to the foam.
