The present invention provides a liquid-crystal panel (100) and liquid-crystal display having improved viewinh-angle characteristics. This liquid-crystal panel is a vertically-aligned liquid-crystal panel provided with: a first substrate (1); a second substrate (2) opposite said first substrate; and a liquid-crystal layer (3) that is sandwiched between said first and second substrates and contains liquid-crystal molecules. The first substrate has a first electrode (20) that contains a plurality of first linear sections (21) lined up at intervals. Either the first substrate or the second substrate has a second electrode (22). The liquid-crystal layer is driven by electric fields generated by at least said first and second electrodes. The distance (D) between the centerlines of the plurality of first linear sections and the cell thickness (d) of the liquid-crystal panel fulfil the relationship D/d<3.
