1,005,845. Rope grips. TRACTEL S.A. Sept. 24, 1963 [Sept. 27, 1962], No. 37499/63. Heading F2X. Self-locking clamping claws for a traction or hoisting apparatus each comprise two jaws 15, 16 with part cylindrical bearing surfaces 15 2 , 15 3 , 16 2 , 16 3 machined into the thickness of the jaws themselves, supported between two pivotal support members 19, 20 by rollers 21-24, Fig. 3, two of which engage each bearing surface, or by part cylindrical segments 28-31, Fig. 7, one of which engages each bearing surface. The jaws thus have no lateral projections. The support members 19, 20 are pivoted between fixed side plates 26 by pins 17, 18. The centres of curvature of corresponding upper and lower bearing surfaces, e.g. 15 2 , 162, are spaced apart a distance d so that rocking motion of the support members 19, 20 about the pivots 17, 18 moves the jaws 15, 16 toward or away from each other to grip or release a cable 14 retained in longitudinal grooves in the jaws. The pivot 17 lies on the perpendicular bisector of the line 0 1 -0 3 joining the centres of curvature of bearing surfaces 15 2 , 16 2 respectively. Torsion springs 25 around the pivots 17, 18 urge the jaws together. The rollers 21-24 each comprise a central portion engaging a jaw bearing surface, and two end portions of smaller diameter, which may be coated with a synthetic resin having a low friction coefficient, engaging holes in the support members 19 or 20. Two claws are incorporated in traction apparatus in which they grip and release the rope alternately under the control of a single lever to haul the rope, reverse and release linkages being provided. |
