HEAT-SINKS FOR OPTICAL NEAR-FIELD TRANSDUCERS

PURPOSE: Heat sinks for near field transducers are provided to increase delivery of convection/heat thermal energy on a conductive surface and an air-bearing surface of an optical near field transducer. CONSTITUTION: A heat sink assembly thermally contacts an optical near field transducer(416). The heat sink assembly has a surface which is conventionally cooled. The heat sink assembly encapsulates at least partially the near field transducer. The heat sink assembly includes pairs of wing type extensions from the near field transducer.
