A method for measuring the total amount of ink of an ink-jet printing apparatus comprises: printing sampling figures (S10); measuring colours of the sampling figures using a measuring instrument (S20); determining the total amount of ink according to the result of the measurement (S30). A device for measuring the total amount of ink in an ink-jet printing apparatus comprises: a printing module (10) for printing sampling figures; a measuring instrument (20) for measuring colours of the sampling figures; and a determining module (30) for determining the total amount of ink according to the result of the measurement. The method and the device can increase the quality of ink-jet printing.
