<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an airbag apparatus capable of properly capturing the residue of inflation gas generated by an inflator and reducing damage to the airbag caused by the residue. <P>SOLUTION: The airbag apparatus M1 is provided with a retainer 40 that includes a hold-down section 41 for attaching the periphery 13 of a gas inlet 12 of the airbag 11 to the case 22, a cover wall 49, deflectors 55 and catches 57. The cover wall 49 covers the inflator body 18 of the inflator 17 and includes a plurality of outlet ports 51 for releasing inflation gas G discharged from discharge ports 19 of the inflator body 18 radially. The deflectors 55 deflect the inflation gas G discharged from the outlet ports 51 in a range of an angle from a direction orthogonal to an axis of the inflator body 18 to a downward direction extending toward the hold-down portion 41.
