The invention relates to a mill comprising a motor-driven grinding container (1) for receiving the material to be ground. The grinding container (1) is rotated by a rotary arm (8) of the drive about an axis of rotation (A) located outside the container, yet at the same time remains non-rotatable about the centre axis (B) thereof by a gear mechanism (9a, 9b, 9c). The grinding balls (12), which can move freely in the grinding container (1), are thus thrown back and forth from wall to wall without any appreciable share of the kinetic energy thereof being lost, for instance due to collisions with each other.
