1,028,548. Electric batteries. GENERAL DYNAMICS CORPORATION. Feb. 10, 1964 [Feb. 18, 1963], No. 5495/64. Heading H1B. A storage battery comprises a zinc anode and an inert oxygen cathode, and means for circulating the electrolyte and supplying oxygen to the cathode. Zinc oxide produced during discharge is removed in the hot electrolyte and recovered outside the cell by cooling the electrolyte in a heat exchanger. A caustic electrolyte (e.g. KOH in water) is used. A filter in the electrolyte circuit removed zinc particles by electrolytically converting them to zinc oxide. The battery has an A.C. compound superposed on the charging current to improve the physical state of the deposited zinc. |
