摘要 <p>1,030,671. Forming fibre webs. JOHNSON and JOHNSON. Nov. 13, 1962 [Nov. 13, 1961], No. 42948/62. Headings D1K,D1N and D1R. [Also in Division 85] A fibre web is laid down in the preparation of cross-laid fibre structures by apparatus which includes a horizontal conveyer with suction devices located at the extremities of the traverse of a further conveyer that deposits a web on the horizontal conveyer. Fibres stripped from a doffer 12 by a worker roll 18 are passed between smoothsurfaced nip rolls 20, 22 and taken up by an endless rubber or canvas belt 26. By adjusting the speed of the worker roll 18 relative to the doffer 12, a more isotropic or more oriented web will be produced. From the belt 26 the fibres are passed to belt 34. Both belts 26, 34 are covered with pile fabric which may be plush with a pile of 1/8 inch or more, velvet with pile of <SP>1</SP>/ 8 inch or less, pannÚ with a flattened pile, or velveteen, velour, terry, corduroy or frisÚ. Pile fibres may be cotton, wool or regenerated cellulose or such thermoplastic materials as cellulose acetate, polyamides, polyesters, or acrylics. Throughout all movements of the operative run of the belt 34, the pile elements should point upwardly and rearwardly. Although pile angles of 5 to 90 degrees are mentioned, angles of 30 to 50 degrees are preferred. The lower bight of belt 34 is reciprocated above a conveyer 46 by mechanism including a block assembly 50 caused to slide on a rod 64 by a chain 56 and linkages 51, 52, 53, 54. If the speed of the chain 56 is greater than the web delivery speed, say at a ratio of 1.2 to 1, then the web will be drafted slightly as it is laid down and improved fibre alignment is obtained. Beneath the edges of the conveyer 46, which is air-permeable, are arranged suction ducts 72, 74 with slits in their upper surfaces so that the selvedges of the cross-laid web may be held in position by suction. After formation, the web may be laminated with similar or other materials, impregnated, bonded, coated or calendered. Examples are given utilising a blend of 75% by weight 3 denier, <SP>19</SP>/ 16 inch staple nylon 66 and 25% of 1. 5 denier <SP>19</SP>/ 16 inch staple dull viscose fibres which is given a 1.1:1 compaction between doffer and worker roll and laid on a horizontal conveyer with a 10% draft. The web so formed is then laminated with two similarly-constructed fabrics, treated with a pre-binder, passed over a heated drying can and through binder-padding equipment, an oven and a calender.</p>
