The brake caliper (30) has housing (31) comprising cylinder space (32) in which a stepped piston (33) with two sections of different cross-sectional area is arranged. A filling volume is formed between housing wall and stepped piston portion of greater cross sectional area. A working volume is formed between housing wall and stepped piston portion of smaller cross sectional area. An annular space with restoring element (34) is formed between housing portion and stepped piston portion of greater cross-sectional area. An independent claim is included for brake assembly.
