The method involves reading a rotor position signal (102) and reading a voltage signal and a current signal (104). An error signal for the rotor position signal is determined from the rotor position signal, the voltage signal and the current signal (106). A model of the electric drive is used for the determination of the error signal to monitor the rotor position sensor using the error signal. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) a device for monitoring a rotor position sensor; and (2) a computer program with program code for executing the method.
