<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a device and a method which can detoxify asbestos needle crystals without requiring special reagent and apparatus. <P>SOLUTION: The asbestos-containing suspended matter burning/melting treatment device 1 includes: a sealable tank 2; a vacuum pump 3 making the inside of the tank 2 into a negative pressure state to the outside air; and an engine 4 connected to the tank 2. The engine 4 is composed of an internal combustion engine for running driving generally used for an automobile or the like, a gaseous mixture of the air and fuel containing asbestos needle crystals C produced from asbestos-containing scrap wood S loaded into the tank 2 is burnt to melt the asbestos needle crystals C.
