<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent image deterioration while maintaining color alignment accuracy without reducing the number of correction pixel data. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus comprises: color shift amount detecting means for forming a color alignment pattern on a belt-like conveyance body, and reading the formed color alignment pattern, thereby detecting an amount of color shift in the main scanning direction of each color; color alignment correction means for correcting color alignment based on the amount of color shift detected by the color shift amount detecting means; and image deterioration prevention correcting means for preventing image deterioration, which occurs due to interference in color alignment correction made by the color alignment correction means. According to the presence or absence (S1 or S4) of a predetermined condition, the image deterioration prevention correcting means calculates the number of correction pixels based on input image characteristics including input image data, dithering specification, and optical component characteristics (S6), then calculates the occurrence period of each correction pixel from the calculated number of correction pixels (S7), and controls the gradation of each correction pixel when the calculated occurrence period is shorter than a preset period. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2012,JPO&INPIT |
