The device (200) has a receiving module that receives data from the SETS module (204). A CPU (112) determines whether the SETS module is connected with the receiving module. The receiving module is controlled by CPU corresponding to the connection state of SETS module with the receiving module, with respect to reference clock. The external reference clock signals are provided and/or transferred to the local components through several network modules (108). Independent claims are included for the following: (1) method for providing reference clock in synchronous Ethernet network; and (2) computer program product for providing reference clock in synchronous Ethernet network.
