The bench has a support (12) comprising a rectangular surface (13) provided with fixing units (14) i.e. individual end-fittings, for fixing positioning tools (5, 10), and reference patterns (15) distinct from patterns carried by the tools. The reference patterns cooperate with infrared cameras and a calculation unit i.e. processing unit, that determine coordinates of the reference patterns and coordinates of the end-fittings. The end-fittings project on the surface of the support, and distributed in an area of the surface distinct from an area in which the reference patterns are distributed.
