Catalyst suitable for the hydrogenation of aromatic or polyunsaturated compounds comprising a zirconia carrier (ZrO 2 ), containing ruthenium, as catalyst, and iron oxide (Fe 2 O 3 ), as promoter, characterized in that at least one metal oxide, selected from those of the groups IB, IIB and IIIA, is present on the carrier as further promoter.
