Tripropargyl phosphate (see Division C2) may be used as a corrosion inhibitor in lubricating oils, hydraulic fluids and dry cleaning compositions.ALSO:A corrosion inhibiting composition comprises an acid and a corrosion inhibiting amount of tripropargyl phosphate (see Division C2). The composition is suitable for use in metal cleaning and scale removal. Specified acids are inorganic and organic acids such as hydrochloric, sulphuric, phosphoric, hydrofluoric, citric, oxalic and sulphamic acids.ALSO:The invention comprises tripropargyl phosphate which may be prepared, according to an example, by mixing propargyl alcohol with POCL3 in the presence of triethylamine and ether at -5 DEG to - 10 DEG C. for 1.5 hours and further reacting by stirring at - 10 DEG to 0 DEG C. for 1 hour, the amine hydrochloride formed and the ether being then removed. The residue is treated with water, extracted with benzene and the product recovered from the organic phase. Tripropargyl phosphate may be used as a corrosion inhibitor in lubricating oils (see Division C5), hydraulic fluids (see Division C5), antifreeze compositions, dry cleaning compositions (see Division C5), and acid-metal cleaning or pickling solutions (see Division C7). |
